Childhood – Stepping out & Doing Something New

It took me quite a while to decide what I wanted to further my studies in after high school because of so many options as well as I wasn’t sure what I was interested in studying. However, since I’ve always been more interested in the creative industry, I decided to go for Digital Media Design to learn something completely new, and I’m glad I chose to study this course because I was able to gain a lot of new skills and learnt things I wouldn’t have on my own.

Education – It’s Time to Get Creative

I studied at The One Academy, Penang and graduated with a diploma in Digital Media Design in 2021. Within the three years that I was studying for my diploma, I was introduced to many programs within Adobe Creative Suite, such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere Pro, which I have become quite familiar with. Besides that, I also have basic knowledge of using 3DSMax and Maxon Cinema4D.

Not long after completing my Diploma from The One Academy Penang, I debated whether to continue my education, such as going on for a degree. However, I decided I wanted to get an experience of how I can apply what I’ve learnt about Digital Media Design throughout my diploma to the actual industry or see how it’s done in the industry. So, as you may have guessed, I sent out my resume to companies where I felt like I could provide real value.
This is where my career began at Kode Digital Experts Services, they gave me the opportunity to be a Graphic Designer, and even though I didn’t have much experience, they were willing to teach me and help me improve along the way. So, of course, I was happy to join the team and learn as much as I could while trying to provide as much value as I could to the company.

Career – Breaking the Fear Barrier

I chose this path because I want to leave an impression or help promote/make an impact on people by conveying messages and turning ideas into creative designs and eye-catching visuals using different forms of media. Other than that, as a designer, there will always be new things to learn as technology is constantly improving, and there is always having recent trends we have to stay up to date with to improve and learn.

Even though it can get stressful at times, I do enjoy my job not only because of the versatility of being able to do a variety of projects but also because the team at Kode Digital Experts is always around to help and support.

One of the main goals of being a designer is to design the project based on the requirements and needs of the client. So, one of my biggest fears would be not being able to produce a satisfactory outcome for the clients. It’s a difficult moment for me when I lack ideas, as every client has very different requirements and expectations. So, I need to think of fresh new ideas, designs, and solutions to be repetitive.

In the end, don’t let the fear of rejection or fear of not being good enough prevent you from making decisions or choosing a career you’re passionate about and interested in. Although I’m still constantly learning and improving, I have learnt that rejection and negative feedback isn’t always bad. They can help you see the issue from a different perspective which can help you understand whether it’s towards your career or day to day.
