Edit Your Photos To Perfection
Imagine this: you are on a trip somewhere you have always wanted to visit, snapping photos as you go. Once the trip is over, you review the photos only to find that one of your favourite photos has an unexpected photobomb in the background. Suddenly, your perfect picture is ruined by an eyesore you just can’t ignore once you notice it.
So, what can you do to fix it?
With Adobe Photoshop’s Content-Aware Fill tool, you can cover up minor background details with the application’s editing software and create the picture you want. This is useful when you want an image to have a central focus with minimal background clutter. The Content-Aware Fill workspace provides an interactive editing experience for ultimate image control.
How Does It Work?
The Content-Aware Fill tool works by extending the background of an image over a selected area. Whether you’re looking to remove unwanted objects from an image or increase the canvas size, Content-Aware Fill can help you get the job done quickly and easily.
Here are some simple steps to take you through the process.
Step 1.
To start, open the image you would like to extend in Adobe Photoshop.
Below is an example image; let’s say we want to extend the image on the left to show more of the sea and mountains.
Step 2.
To extend the background, click on the Crop Tool from the Toolbar on the left side of the screen. Use this tool to expand the edges of your image.
Step 3.
After that, select the Rectangle Marquee Tool from the Toolbar on the left side of the screen. Use this tool to create a selection of the area you want to extend.
Step 4.
Once you have your selection, go to Edit > Content-Aware Fill in the drop-down menu.
Step 5.
After that, the Content-Aware Fill panel will appear. The green highlighted area on the left is the area that will be used to fill your selected area. You can also use the Sampling Brush Tool from the Toolbar on the left side of the screen to manually add/remove areas to be used. On the right is a preview of the results.
When satisfied with the preview, click “OK” in the bottom right corner.
Step 6.
Lastly, use the Healing Brush Tool, as it’s great at helping remove any remaining imperfections.
Step 7.
There it is. You can now Save your image!
Note: Although this feature is fast and simple, it may not work perfectly for some images. Sometimes you may need to manually edit the image using a combination of other tools to achieve the results you want.
The World Is Your Canvas
Though seemingly simple at first glance, mastering Content-Aware Fill can open up a whole new world of possibilities with photo editing. Whether you are editing for fun or professionally, Content-Aware Fill is an easy, yet effective, solution to many problems.
